FILM NORTH NEWSLETTER I SEPTEMBER 18TH 2012
SCREENING OF "I'VE HEARD THE MERMAIDS SINGING"
Film North will present the Riaz Tyab Bull's Eye Lifetime Achievement Award 2012 to Sheila McCarthy at this year’s Gala Closing Night Award Ceremony at the Algonquin Theatre, Huntsville, on Saturday, September 22nd. To showcase Sheila's work, we will be screening her choice, "I've Heard The Mermaids Singing' 1987, that afternoon. The breakout movie for actor Sheila McCarthy and Canadian director Patricia Rozema, this light comedy/drama, is a whimsical soft key film. It will be followed by a Q&A session with Sheila McCarthy. Not to be missed!
DIRECTOR’S RETROSPECTIVE
Robert Altman's early work, in Canada, "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" 1971, will screened on Saturday, September 22nd. Filmed in Vancouver, on a custom built Western-town set, starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, sound track by Canadian musician Leonard Cohen, and cinematography by world class filmmaker Vilmos Zsigmond, this film is the anti-Western/Western. Very naturalist and heavy in allegory, it is about the frontier myth of the West. Catch this screening and look for lots of Canadian actors in the cast!
Stayed tuned for this week’s Newsletter #2 - Dinners/Parties, Newsletter #3 - Shorts, Newsletter #4 - Must Not Miss Cheat Sheet Tickets and passes on sale now through the Box Office or online at
