365 Day Launch A Success The Film North 365 Day Countdown Launch Event weekend unfolded without a hitch and was a tremendous success. Film North is committed to excellence in programming and targets an audience which is educated, cultured, well travelled and inquisitive. The film screened at the Launch Event was Manufactured Landscapes which falls into the category of Film North's Inaugural theme, ENVIRONMENT, ONE WORD ONE WORLD. It won the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian Feature Film. The story follows Order of Canada member and Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky's documentation of the industrialization of the world and how that impacts on the planet. The Canadian director of the movie, Jennifer Baichwal was present at the screening and media/audience forums. The evening was a resounding success. The Founder of Film North, Lucy Molnar Wing, noted in her address to the audience that the 'Sundance Film Festival' had almost the same number in attendance thirty years ago at their inaugural evening, and they are now the largest International Film Festival in the United States. This bodes very well for Film North's future.
